Public Software

The whole software stack, rebuilt from scratch in Rust, as one open suite.

Firmware to office suite: 57 repositories that sign the same contracts, so the parts fit. Spec-first, cleanroom, held in public. Nothing here is a fork.

The Public Software ledger: five slabs, each wider than the one above

The suite

Every repository, in its dependency ring. Dependencies only point inward. Each mark is the repository's own, drawn from what it is.

Spine

defines, assembles and documents everything else.

How we work

Spec-first cleanroom

Implement the standard, not the incumbent. Closed standards get a living spec and an executable conformance suite in specs.

RFCs for anything that crosses a repository

Interfaces are WIT packages in interfaces; changing one is a proposal with a decision log.

Signed off, signed, reviewed

DCO on every commit, signed commits and a linear history on main, one approving code-owner review; two in the platform ring.

Apache-2.0 OR MIT

Code under either licence; specs and content under CC-BY-4.0. No CLA. GitHub is a mirror of our own forge.
